New Year, New You: Top 10 Tips for January Fashion

It's a New year and a whole new you! Here are our top 10 tips for winter fashion, nail art and more to keep you looking stylish however cold it gets.

1. New looks for old

Take a slouchy cardigan and that classic white shirt, double denim and a bomber jacket, a polo under a sleeveless dress or a classic scarf/sweater/coat combo. Restyle your existing wardrobe by layering this January and you'll be right on trend.

2. Dig out your ski jacket

The cool new way to wear that North Face or Roxy jacket? With slacks and heels for the office for a look straight off the catwalk. Add an oversized trapper hat to be bang on trend. This is a great way to dress well for winter and still look good.

3. DIY some extra-long sleeves

Rihanna-approved extra-long sleeves are a great alternative to gloves. Either knit some tubes or take the sleeves from an old sweater and attach to the cuffs of your favourite knit for an instant DIY fashion update.

4. Leggings are back

Everyone has them because they're cosy and comfortable for the winter styled under skirts and dresses. But both Phoebe Philo and Celine have embraced the look, giving it a fashion stamp of approval.

5. Natural tones and textures

Leather, suede and velvet are the fabrics to be seen in this winter, so focus on a January colour palette of rich berry toned and black velvet, chocolate leather and tan and terracotta suede.

6. Enhance your cuticles

Bare nails are a strong trend for 2017, but with a flash of gold glitter highlighting the cuticles. Nails are also decorated with bold metallics, white and pastel shades with graphic designs, a multicolored French manicure or dramatic black with sequin embellishments.

7. Go metallic

Match those glittery, metallic nails with sequined embellishments for sweaters and some glittery accessories for instant winter wow.

8. Faux fur is back

Cosy and glamorous, a big faux fur stole makes a dramatic style statement. Wear on the diagonal for maximum impact and DIY your own with the dazzling array of fake fur fabrics available.

9. Masculine meets feminine

If you only buy one new thing this winter, make it a masculine style trouser suit. The trousers will look good with a shirt or jumper, the jacket will work well with jeans or a midi skirt and the whole suit looks effortlessly smart and professional. Pinstripes are the on-trend choice.

10. Dig out your puffer jacket

These cosy winter warmers are finally cool. They were all over the catwalks and the chicest way to style them is by throwing one on over your little black dress and heels for a night out.
